Mumbai: Man buys LIC's costliest policy for Rs 50 crore premium

MUMBAI: Demonetisation has helped the Life Insurance Corporation net a policy with the highest premium ever. The Dadar branch of the country's largest life insurance company snagged the deal with a premium income of Rs 50 crore on Wednesday. The record premium was paid by an individual for a Jeevan Akshay pension plan. The buyer is understood to be a businessman with real estate interests. There have been several high net worth buyers purchasing multi-crore policies. The most famous is a top Bollywood actor who purchased a Rs 2-crore pension plan that will get him an annuity of nearly Rs 15 lakh every year. Incidentally, LIC is seeking an explanation from the branch on how details of the Bollywood celebrity's insurance proposal got leaked on social media.
